The Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered a Bangladeshi man to settle a BND10,000 fine for possessing smuggled cigarettes.
Nobi Hassan, 35, would have to serve 10 months’ jail in default of payment.
Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif heard from the Customs prosecutor that Customs preventive officers intercepted the defendant’s vehicle as he was leaving his home compound in Kampong Kiarong at 5.57pm on March 6. The defendant, who had been on Customs surveillance, was found carrying 10 cartons of smuggled cigarettes inside the car.
The court ordered the seized cigarettes to be destroyed.
