Local graduate heads for youth summit in Canada

A Universiti Brunei Darussalam graduate departed for the One Young World Summit 2024 in Montréal, Canada yesterday after receiving the Asia Leading Scholarship.

During an interview with the Bulletin, Nur Hamiz’zah binti Razali shared, “I’m excited to receive the scholarship and be the sole representative from Brunei at the One Young World Summit 2024.”

Asked about the online application process, she said, “I submitted an essay and found out in July that I have been chosen.

She also shared, “I plan to discuss digital illiteracy, which is also a problem in Brunei. I’m passionate about tackling misinformation, disinformation, fake news and manipulation.

Mizzah also said, “I was previously at the ASEAN Foundation’s Digital Illiteracy programme, where we created a workshop in Brunei to raise awareness about misinformation and disinformation in schools.

“The programmes in Canada will include talks and panel discussions from representatives of well-known international companies, along with breakout sessions on various topics. I am particularly interested in sessions on education for all and artificial intelligence.”

Mizzah hopes to bring back new ideas to incorporate into youth-led projects after the summit, which will run from September 18-21. – James Kon
