Strengthen infrastructure amid climate change threats

I am writing to address the bouts of extreme weather we have experienced over the past few weeks. These events have brought significant floods and property damage, some of which appear rather unprecedented in recent times.

While I appreciate our country’s efforts through the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat (BCCS), I can’t help but wonder if our climate change initiatives sufficiently address the urgent need to weatherproof public infrastructure by increasing its resilience.

As we face increasingly severe weather conditions, it is crucial for the authorities to invest in climate-resilient infrastructure to mitigate the impact of such weather events.

Weatherproofing public buildings, roads and other critical infrastructure can prevent extensive damage, reduce repair costs and protect the communities.

I urge the relevant authorities to consider strengthening our infrastructure against the growing threats posed by climate change.

Ensuring that our public assets can withstand extreme weather not only safeguards our environment but also enhances the safety and well-being of our citizens.
