Collaboration hosts Al-Quran signing course, forum

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) are hosting a five-day basic course on Al-Quran Braille and signing until August 24.

The course, at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong, is part of the 14th UNISSA Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj.

The first day of the course, attended by 38 participants, started with a session on Al-Quran signing by facilitators from the Malaysian university.

The course aims to teach basic Al-Quran signing skills and raise awareness on the needs of the disabled community. The sessions include ‘Okay vs Okay You’ by Director of Ibnu Ummi Maktum Research Centre (UMMI) at USIM Dr Haji Norakyairee Mohd Raus, ‘Deaf Culture’ by UMMI senior fellow Associate Professor Dr Nurul Asiah Fasehah Muhammad and ‘Voiceless Communication Basics’ by UMMI Budi Fellow Siti Ramna Khamaruddin. The collaboration aims to enhance the needs of religious people with different abilities and promoting community empowerment.

Meanwhile, UNISSA, in collaboration with USIM, held a forum titled ‘Honouring Persons with Disabilities through Religion’ recently.

The forum, at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong, was one of the key programmes featured during UNISSA’s 14th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj. The primary objectives of the forum were to clarify the concept of persons with disabilities (OKU) from an Islamic perspective and serve as a medium for enhancing public understanding and support for the needs of the OKU community.

The forum provided a platform for sharing experiences related to the role of Islamic higher education institutions in promoting Islamic outreach efforts for persons with disabilities. – Azlan Othman & Fadley Faisal
