Resilience, discipline and good time management paramount for success

Being resilient, disciplined and able to manage time well are the key ingredients to becoming outstanding students, according to Ministry of Religious Affairs scholarship recipients.

Haji Muhammad Bazli Ra’if bin Haji Zulkifili from Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) will further his studies at Ma’had Qira’at Shubra in Egypt.

“Studying at ITQSHHB requires a lot of discipline. It has shaped my identity,” he told the Bulletin at a Doa Kesyukuran ceremony at An-Naura Hall, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex yesterday.

“Time management is also crucial. We should not be too distracted with social media in our daily life,” he added.

Meanwhile, Umiyatul Hadifah @Umie Hadifa binti Merun, a former student of Ma’had Islam Brunei in Tutong District and Jerudong International School (JIS), said, “We have to get back to our purpose in life and occupational therapy is what I want to do as a career.”

She will pursue a degree course in occupational therapy in Monash University in Australia.

Meanwhile, Nurfa’eqah Syahirah binti Haji Abdul Majid from Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre was the recipient of a special scheme to pursue ‘A’ Level studies at JIS.

She said its international setting and learning style would present a new challenge for her, focusing on self-study and less on spoon-feeding knowledge. Nurfa’eqah Syahirah, who is planning to pursue tertiary studies in either medical or engineering, said encouragement from teachers and colleagues, her parents’ support, and her resilience are essential to her success. “At school, we study together even until midnight with colleagues”, she said.

Meanwhile Najla’ Sabreena binti Haji Abd Rajid who will be studying usuluddin hadith at Al-Azhar University said students should stay motivated when studying, be more focused, and revise according to a proper schedule. – Azlan Othman
