Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali’s (UNISSA) Faculty of Islamic Technology and Academic Management Office organised an Innovation Day in conjunction with the university’s open day.
The two-day open day at the university’s auditorium, open to UNISSA members and the public, ends today.
Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal officiated the event that saw the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between UNISSA and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
The MoA is for cooperation in matching grants for underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) research projects.
Dr Haji Norarfan represented UNISSA while UTM was represented by the university’s Chairman of Research Alliance Innovative Engineering Associate Professor Dr Mohd Farid bin Muhamad Said on behalf of Vice Chancellor of UTM Professor Datuk Teknologis Dr Ahmad Fauzi Islami.
The Innovation Day is aimed at showcasing the outcome of projects, presentation on their findings and exhibition of prototypes by the students. It also provides exposure and raises awareness among students to be more proactive in activities that foster innovation and creative thinking.
The event also includes lectures and workshops by innovation experts from UTM.
UNISSA Assistant Rector (Academic) Associate Professor Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad said the prototype made by the students can create opportunities to explore commercial possibilities and initiate start-up and spin-off companies. She added that it will assist the students to build a career as technopreneurs and improve their employability.
Associate Professor Dr Siti Sara said Innovation Day also provides an opportunity to appreciate the achievements and efforts of individuals and groups who strive to create, improve and implement ideas. – Rokiah Mahmud
