    New hall fosters community bonds

The newly inaugurated Tutong Converts Association (PESATU) multipurpose hall is set to enhance community engagement by facilitating religious talks, gatherings and recreational activities for the district’s converts, Islamic Dakwah Centre (PDI) Director Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh said.

Following the official opening of the facility in Kampong Tanjong Panjang, Mukim Tanjong Maya, Tutong District, Haji Abdul Rajid expressed hope that the new hall would strengthen the ukhuwah (brotherhood) among converts, serving as a centre for religious education, economic empowerment and the promotion of Dakwah Islamiah. He added that while Brunei-Muara, Temburong, and Belait districts already have designated gathering places for converts, the establishment of similar centres in other areas would depend on space availability and future considerations.

The ceremony, organised by PDI’s Converts Development Division in collaboration with the Tutong District Dakwah Unit, saw Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, who officially launched the multipurpose hall, signing the signboard and presenting the Qibla Direction Marker for the hall.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Legislative Council members, Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) representatives and senior officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Development also attended.

Funded by MUIB’s General Administration Fund, the BND794,897.52 project began on July 6, 2023 with its foundation stone laid on November 18, 2023.

Built on a one-acre plot, the hall can accommodate over 300 people and includes prayer rooms, ablution areas, storage rooms, parking and disabled-friendly facilities.
