OKURide raises BND10k for inclusivity and special needs awareness

The OKURide charity cycling event successfully raised BND10,000 to support the Down Syndrome Association (ABLE) and the Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind (BNAB).

Held on November 30 and December 1, the initiative was organised by The IMPIAN Project and sponsored by Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (Perbadanan TAIB) and its subsidiaries, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Organised in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the event aimed to foster inclusivity, promote health, and raise awareness for individuals with special needs.

The event culminated in a closing ceremony attended by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, who was accompanied by his spouse.

During the ceremony, the Minister handed over the donations to representatives from ABLE and BNAB.

Forty cyclists participated in the event, covering a challenging 50km route each, totaling 2,000km collectively.

Lailatul Zubaidah Hussain, founder of The IMPIAN Project, emphasised the event’s impact, stating, “The OKURide was more than just a cycling event; it was a powerful reminder of the strength found in unity and the importance of inclusivity.

“We are deeply grateful to Perbadanan TAIB and its subsidiaries for their sponsorship and unwavering support, which reflects their dedication to empowering communities and contributing to our nation’s growth.

“Together, we have created a meaningful impact in the lives of those in the special needs community.”

The IMPIAN Project expressed its appreciation to all participants and sponsors and hopes to organise more initiatives in the future to continue promoting inclusivity and supporting individuals with special needs. – Fadley Faisal
