Conference sheds light on ethical leadership in Islam

Brunei Institute of Leadership and Islamic Finance (BILIF), in collaboration with Menara Syariah, Indonesia organised the Islamic Leaders Conference (ILC) 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday.

The two-day conference, themed ‘Leadership and Islam’, aims to highlight experts exploring Islamic principles of leadership. It focuses on how Islamic values can guide ethical leadership in today’s society and compare Islamic leadership with western models.

Key topics include the leadership qualities of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the role of Maqasid Syariah in organisational success, women in leadership and chief executive officer success strategies.

The event commenced with a welcoming remark by Menara Syariah Chairman Harianto Solichin.

He highlighted the conference presents a significant opportunity to share strategies and solutions that not only tackle the issues at hand but also empower the youth, uplift marginalised groups, and promote peace and cooperation.

The event saw a keynote address by Senior Deputy Governor of Indonesia Destry Damayanti. She emphasised five key principles in Syariah economy and financial development: justice, inclusion, collaboration, sustainability and welfare.

The conference featured local speakers and practitioners including Brunei Darussalam Central Bank Assistant Managing Director Hajah Sufinah binti Haji Sahat, BILIF Acting Chief Executive Officer Afero Eswandy Mohamad; and Dr Mohammad Iznan bin Haji Tarip from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

The conference will continue today, where a series of presentations including ‘Maqasid Syariah: Ingredients of Organisational Success?’, ‘In the Tradition of the Prophet – Leading with Impact’, ‘CEO Conversations: Secrets of Success (SOS)’, ‘Leadership by Innovation towards Sustainability and Success’ and panel discussions will be featured.

The event was supported by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam and several Indonesian financial institutions.
