Cambodia’s exports to US rise by over six per cent in first seven months

ANN/THE PHNOM PENH NEWS – Cambodia exported goods worth more than USD5.5 billion to the United States (US) in the first seven months of 2024, marking a 6.4-per-cent increase over the same period in 2023, while exports to China reached USD975 million, up 19.7 per cent, according to the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE).

From January to July, Cambodia imported about USD154 million worth of goods from the US, up 8.9 per cent year-on-year, while imports from China were worth about USD7.7 billion, up 23.4 per cent.

Bilateral trade between Cambodia and China during the period amounted to more than USD8.7 billion, an increase of 23 per cent compared to the same interval last year, while total trade volume between Cambodia and the US increased to more than USD5.6 billion, an increase of 6.5 per cent.

Cambodia’s exports to other countries reached over USD14 billion for the period, up 14 per cent year-on-year. Exports to Vietnam during the period totalled more than USD2.2 billion, up 37.7 per cent, while imports amounted to over USD2.4 billion, an increase of 12.9 per cent from the same period in 2023.

Trade volume between the two countries stood at USD4.6 billion, up 23.5 per cent. Exports to Thailand during the interval amounted to more than USD499 million, down 6.4 per cent from the same period in 2023, while imports amounted to USD1.9 billion, up 13.4 per cent.

Total trade volume between the two countries was USD2.4 billion, up 8.6 per cent year-on-year.

From January to July, the country’s highest exports were apparel and clothing accessories categorised under Harmonised System (HS) Codes 61 and 62 (knitted and non-knitted), reaching USD3.4 billion (up 14.1 per cent) and USD1.8 billion (up 29.5 per cent) respectively from the same period last year.
