Impact of socioeconomic stability on mental health highlighted

In an effort to enhance public awareness on the interconnection between life stability, quality of life and mental well-being, the Premier Forum at the Knowledge Convention 2024 yesterday addressed the topic of socioeconomic stability and its impact on mental health.

The forum featured insights from three experts representing various local institutions, who provided in-depth discussions from both Islamic and scientific perspectives.

Dean at the Faculty of Social Science Education at Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Associate Professor Dr Mohd Shahril bin Ahmad Razimi explained that if the socioeconomic situation is unstable, it will lead to various illnesses as well as social and mental issues among individuals or communities.

He also highlighted various agencies and authorities conducting initiatives and programmes as means to provide awareness in addressing mental disorder.

He then cited the projection by the World Health Organization (WHO) that by 2030, mental disorder will be the leading cause of disease after cardiac arrest.

He pointed out that various programmes have been organised, including a whole-of-nation approach in addressing and managing mental health symptoms.
