Anwar’s rendition of Bollywood song hits right tune on social media

ANN/THE STAR – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s rendition of a popular Hindi song during his recent trip to India has gotten the attention of social media.

The prime minister sang Dost dost na raha (A friend is no longer a friend) from the 1964 film Sangam (Confluence), along with a local ensemble and guests at Delhi’s Taj Mahal Hotel where he stayed.

The video uploaded on Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, showed a lighter side of Anwar who was on his first visit to India as prime minister.

The posts garnered positive reactions, including from an Instagram user who commented: “Beautiful. Music is the true universal language that unites people beyond caste, creed, gender and borders.”

Another user wrote, “Kya baat hai!!!”

An X user also reacted to the same video wrote “Woww!! The depth in his voice. Truly amazing!!!”.

Dato’ Seri Anwar, leading a high-level delegation, paid an official visit to India from August 19 to 21.

Following the bilateral meeting between him and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last Tuesday, both nations agreed to elevate their relationship to a “comprehensive strategic partnership”.

“We believe that there is still a lot of potential in economic cooperation. Bilateral trade and investment should be expanded,” said Modi.
