ANN/THE STRAITS TIMES – Najib Razak’s MYR2.28 billion 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) has been postponed to September 17 as the former prime minister is still hospitalised due to acute inflammation of the knee and sleep apnoea.
Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s (HKL) orthopaedic and traumatology department senior consultant Dr Siti Hawa Tahir told the High Court that the medical team needed to monitor Najib’s progress after prescribing him with opioids on September 10.
“Najib’s medical certificate for today and tomorrow was given based on yesterday’s evaluation because when it comes to such conditions of acute inflammation, it goes day to day evaluation. He needs two days of rest,” she said yesterday, adding that the pain has been reduced with opioids but Najib has developed some side effects such as nausea and drowsiness.
“He also has sleep apnoea which is a concern for all of us because he needs to be closely monitored when he is on opioids.”
Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah then asked if Najib would be fit to attend the trial today.
Dr Siti Hawa said it depends on the evaluation of a psychiatrist on Najib’s mental state as he is on opioids.
“When we converse, Najib can understand… about the symptoms he is having,” she added.
