Ang Chin Gui from Chung Hwa Middle School, who is among the seven government and private secondary school students who left for Japan to participate in the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) programme on Sunday, said he looks forward to forging new friendships and learn about Japanese culture.
“We serve as young ambassadors. We will share information and promote Bruneian culture with Japanese students. We will also be performing a traditional dance,” he said.
The programme, from July 25 to August 2, allows the students to gain knowledge on topics such as environmental prevention and energy, manufacturing and science technologies, medical and social welfare, and Internet and education from a global perspective and through cross-cultural skills.
The students will participate in activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN Friendship and Cooperation. They will also learn about Japan’s role in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and ASEAN through visits and cultural exchanges.
The delegation comprised Year 9 and Year 10 students from four government secondary schools – Mohammad Luqman Al-Hakim bin Haji Abdul Mukti from Rimba II Secondary School, Nur Najibah Izzati binti Haji Ali Rahman from Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School, Sofiyya Najihah binti Haji Abd Aziz @Azis from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School and Nuraliyah Afifah binti Zulkifli from Sayyidina Husain Secondary School.
Meanwhile, private secondary schools are represented by Akid Ukail @ Ean Mikael bin Edi Farhan from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School, Nur Fathin Syuhaidah binti Syamsul from Seri Mulia Sarjana Secondary School and Ang Chin Gui.
Jalilah binti Haji Jali from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School is accompanying the delegates.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Department of Schools and the Department of Private Education coordinated Brunei’s participation for the JENESYS.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman and Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru bid the delegation farewell at the Brunei International Airport.
Officials from the Department of Schools and the Department of Private Education at the MoE were also present. – James Kon
