ANN/THE KOREA HERALD – An intoxicated driver who caused multiple collisions in Incheon, South Korea, was apprehended with the help of two civilians who assisted South Korea police in stopping his escape.
The incident occurred on October 1, 2024, in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, and was detailed in a video shared by the National Police Agency last week. The driver fled the scene after colliding with two cars, injuring their drivers, and crashing into a parking lot barrier during a high-speed chase shortly after midnight.
Senior Inspector Yun Gwan-pil and Assistant Inspector Lee Jin-woo of the Incheon Bupyeong Police Station pursued and arrested the suspect at 12.37am.
A breath test revealed the driver’s blood content to be 0.199 per cent, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 per cent for licence revocation.
Key to the arrest were two civilians on motorcycles who tracked the fleeing suspect while guiding police officers in a patrol car.
When the chase ended in an alley, the two riders blocked the suspect’s vehicle from behind, preventing further escape.
The National Police Agency hailed the civilians as “heroes”, stating, “The exceptional teamwork between the police officers and the two motorcyclists was instrumental in stopping the drunk driver’s dangerous actions.”
The suspect now faces charges of intoxicated driving, hit-and-run causing injury, and failure to take necessary action following a traffic accident.
