Work out, not burn out: Your Ramadhan fitness guide

DHAKA (ANN/THE DAILY STAR) – Exercises assist us in achieving fitness objectives, controlling weight, and most importantly, living a healthy life. Therefore, this Ramadhan, let’s prioritise our health by incorporating exercise along with a balanced and nutritious diet. Exercising in our hot and humid surroundings can be quite intimidating, particularly after a full day of fasting, so we’ve compiled some easy tips for you to consider.

Prior to engaging in any workout, the key factor is to choose the right time. We recommend avoiding workouts during fasting, as the humid conditions increase the risk of dehydration. Stay active during the day, whether you’re at work or at home; take short walks if possible, and ensure you take breaks whenever you feel tired.

The best time for a workout in Ramadhan is an hour or two after you have had your iftar, as by then your body would be rehydrated.

    Start with some cardio

Before beginning your workout, ensure that you warm up and stretch your body appropriately. Begin your workout with some cardio; considering the heat and that you have been fasting all day, start lightly.

Go for a walk and check how much you can exercise before you are fatigued as the goal is to have easy enough workouts that will help to maintain your fitness throughout the month.

    Be flexible with yoga

Yoga promotes both physical and mental flexibility and strength, making it a great partner for your fasting experience.

Yoga poses — like the bridge, the triangle, and the tree — are great workout options if you are looking for something that will calm your mind and maintain your fitness in the process. As it can be done in the comfort of your home, yoga after an hour or two of iftar might just be the exercising cleanser your body needs.

    A healthy beverage

Unsweetened green tea, in contrast to milk tea, is crucial for managing weight. Nutritionists state that green tea has an amino acid that enhances brain function, as well as antioxidants such as EGCG that aid in preventing cell damage.

Whether it’s the pre-workout drink that you need or the post-workout fix, a cup of green tea can be your health and wellness partner along with your workout routine.
