Wellness ambassadors enhance public well-being

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Wellness Ambassadors provided essential health services and promoted greater health awareness among the community at the recently concluded BIBD Mega Karnival.

During the Karnival, from November 13-17 at Bridex Hall, Kampong Jerudong, the BIBD Wellness Ambassadors served a number of visitors, offering free health screenings and first aid support.

Positioned at Hall 2, Level 2, Mezzanine Floor, the Wellness Ambassadors’ booth provided health screenings which included checks for blood glucose, uric acid, haemoglobin levels, cholesterol, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, enabling visitors to gain valuable insights into their health.

The BIBD Wellness Ambassadors programme, established in 2022, represents a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing public health and safety.

Launched by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Amin Liew bin Abdullah, the Wellness Ambassadors consist of over 33 volunteers, including BIBD personnel and strategic partners from government agencies.

Each member undergoes extensive training in Occupational First Aid, certified by the Safety, Health, and Environment National Authority (SHENA), and is equipped with skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

Beyond physical first aid, the ambassadors are trained in Psychological First Aid (PFA) and counselling, empowering them to address mental health concerns alongside physical health issues.

Throughout the Karnival, the Wellness Ambassadors received positive feedback from visitors, who commended their professionalism and the accessibility of these health services.

Their efforts have not only enhanced public health awareness but also reaffirmed BIBD’s role as a key advocate for community well-being. Since their inception, the Wellness Ambassadors have actively participated in a wide range of national initiatives, such as health awareness campaigns for World Cancer Day and World Kidney Day, and provided first aid support at major events, including royal ceremonies and public celebrations.

Their service has earned them accolades, including the Excellence Service Award from the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society for lifesaving efforts during emergencies.

The BIBD Mega Karnival 2024 provided the perfect platform for the Wellness Ambassadors to further their mission of promoting healthier lifestyles.

Their contributions at the event reinforced BIBD’s commitment to building a healthier, more informed, and resilient Bruneian community.
