Nation urged to embrace healthy habits

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar recently highlighted the alarming rise in prostate cancer cases.

Reading an article in the Bulletin headlined ‘Minister highlights rising cancer cases among men’, was cause for concern.

I believe we need to adopt a balanced and nutritious diet rich in vegetables and fruits to help prevent many diseases.

Unfortunately, we often consume deep-fried foods and sugary drinks in large quantities, while vegetables and fruits are eaten sparingly. This habit should be reversed – our daily diets should prioritise more vegetables and fruits for a healthier life.

Exercise is equally important. With the many recreational areas available, a brisk morning or evening walk can work wonders for our health.

We also tend to rely heavily on driving, even for short distances.

Why not walk to nearby shops, supermarkets, mosques, schools, and other close destinations? Walking is one of the best forms of exercise, and it also offers an opportunity to bond with others.

Let us promote the message of healthy living so we can work towards a healthier nation.
