Frequent phone use by bus drivers sparks passenger concerns

I am a foreigner working in Brunei, and I frequently use the bus to commute to work in the mornings. The buses are punctual and very well maintained, and I have often seen the crew cleaning the bus after every journey.

However, I am concerned about the drivers frequently checking their mobile phones during the journey. While I understand if they use their phones to check the route, I have observed that, in most cases, they are replying to messages or even talking on the phone.

I am not sure who they are conversing with – perhaps it is an official matter – but this should not happen. I believe the crew should be briefed on the dos and don’ts of driving.

Using a phone while driving is very dangerous, as it can cause drivers to lose concentration. This is particularly concerning since they are responsible for transporting passengers.

In the mornings, the buses are usually quite full. Imagine if a driver loses control because they are distracted by their phone – it could lead to serious consequences.

We all have a set of rules to follow when driving, and these rules should apply to the bus drivers as well.
