    Volunteer teacher assistants receive certificates

The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Early Childhood Education Unit of the Permanent Secretary (Core Education) Office held a certificate presentation ceremony for voluntary preschool teacher assistants in temporary work placement programme at the MoE, Berakas on Saturday.

Head of Centre for the Development of Gifted and Talented (EDGE) at MoE Dr Mona Aliana binti Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Alimin, the guest of honour, presented the certificates.

The event began with a speech by Head of Early Childhood Education Sharinah binti Suhaimi followed by the certificate presentation. The programme was first introduced in January 2013 offering ‘O’ and ‘A’ level graduates awaiting exam results to become voluntary preschool teacher assistants in government primary schools.

This year, 28 students comprising three graduates from higher institutions, 11 ‘A’ level students and 14 ‘O’ level students participated in the programme.

One of the programme’s objectives is to expose the students to volunteerism which is beneficial for the development of their personality and identity.

It also builds soft skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership as well as fosters interest in becoming an educator.

The programme is expected to improve the quality of education in Brunei by producing students who are self-confident and independent through opportunities provided by the ministry in line with the aspirations of National Education System for the 21st Century (SPN21) and Brunei Vision 2035.
