Village heads play a crucial role as grassroots community leaders, in addition to being a catalyst for unity, harmony, prosperity, safety, and welfare, while driving socio-economic development at the community level, said Acting Brunei-Muara District Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim.
The duties and responsibilities of a village head are neither light nor easy. A village head must also meet the high expectations and aspirations of the villagers in terms of development, as well as lead the way in progressing the village towards Brunei Vision 2035, he said.
He made these comments during the election for the village head of STKRJ Kampong Mata-Mata (Katok ‘B’) in Gadong ‘B’ at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School Hall in Kampong Katok yesterday.
Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubarak said village heads should also be proactive and be willing to sacrifice time to visit villagers to meet, interact, and exchange ideas as well as listening to their problems.
Sole candidate Pengiran Muhammad Redzuan bin Pengiran Haji Said, 42, has been residing in STKRJ Kampong Mata-Mata since 2017.
He received 149 votes in favour and 14 votes against his appointment as the village head. – Adib Noor
