Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) emerged winners of the Higher Institutions Handball Championship after defeating Politeknik Brunei 14-7 in the boys’ final at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas yesterday.
Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT) came third after they beat Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) 5-2.
Meanwhile, BHF Scheme won the girls’ final after defeating Politeknik Brunei 8-2.
The tournament aimed to provide exposure to youth under 23 years to handball and served as a platform to unearth talented players as an early preparation for international competitions organised by the International Handball Federation (IHF).
Four boys’ teams – UBD, UTB, Politeknik Brunei and CCCT; and three girls’ teams – UTB, Politeknik Brunei and BHF Training Scheme took part in the tournament held over two weekends.
The round-robin stage was played for two periods with 20 minutes each while the final with 30 minutes each.
The tournament was organised by the Brunei Handball Federation (BHF).
