Two new Kuala Lumpur restaurants get Michelin stars

KUALA LUMPUR (ANN/THE STAR) – The third edition of the Michelin Guide for Malaysia has unveiled its 2025 honorees, spotlighting exceptional dining experiences across the country. Modern Malaysian restaurant Dewakan retained its prestigious two Michelin stars and achieved a groundbreaking milestone by earning Malaysia’s first-ever Michelin Green Star for its commitment to sustainability.

Helmed by Chef Darren Teoh, Dewakan has solidified its status as Malaysia’s top-ranked restaurant since the Michelin Guide’s inception in the country. Reflecting on the accolades, Teoh expressed gratitude toward his team and supporters, saying, “We constantly keep our heads down and just do things a little better than we did yesterday.”

Dewakan’s Green Star recognises its leadership in sustainable practices, a distinction that elevates its already sterling reputation.

New stars in the culinary sky

This year, two new Kuala Lumpur restaurants joined the Michelin-starred ranks:

  1. Chim by Chef Noom
    Specializsng in contemporary Thai cuisine, this eatery is the latest venture by Thai chef Thaninthorn ‘Noom’ Chantrawan. Opened in March 2024 at Menara TS Law, Chim combines innovative flavors with deep cultural roots. Chef Noom thanked his mother and wife for inspiring his culinary journey, saying, “They taught me how to cook and refine my skills.”

  2. Molina KL
    A fine-dining gem offering avant-garde European cuisine, Molina KL is led by Belgian chef Guillaume Depoortere and supported by two-Michelin-starred chef Sidney Schutte. Chef Depoortere shared, “We wanted to bring something new to KL’s dining scene, and this star validates our hard work and creativity.”

Returning favorites and expanding recognition

Four restaurants retained their one Michelin star: Au Jardin (Penang); Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery (Penang); DC by Darren Chin (Kuala Lumpur) and Beta (Kuala Lumpur)

In total, the Michelin Guide Malaysia 2025 includes 143 establishments, comprising seven Michelin-starred restaurants, 56 Bib Gourmand eateries, and 80 Michelin Selected restaurants.
