Two Malaysian fishermen injured, another missing in boat collision

THE STAR – Two fishermen suffered minor injuries while another went missing after their boat collided with another boat at Sungai Sedili, near Jalan Kerisi, Kampung Sungai Sembayong in Malaysia.

Kota Tinggi Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Rafiee A Karim said that the department received a distress call at 5.11pm yesterday.

“The three local fishermen were on a 15ft boat that we believed was involved in a collision with a 30ft boat at the Sungai Sedili river.

“The impact caused the trio to be thrown off their boat, with two of them, a 38-year-old and a 29-year-old, managed to be saved by the public,” he said in a statement.

The department had previously conducted a surface search and rescue using two public boats to locate the missing 35-year-old man before ending the operation at 7pm.

“The victims have been sent to the Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment. We will continue the operation tomorrow,” he said.
