Labour enforcement officers discovered an employer committing two offences under the Employment Order, 2009 namely failure to pay the employee’s salary within seven days and failure to provide first aid equipment.
The inspection took place in Jalan Pangsa in Seria recently.
The Law Enforcement Division of the Labour Department in Brunei-Muara District and Belait District conducted the operation to ensure that the Employment Order 2009 is obeyed.
For the offences, if found guilty, the employer may face a fine of up to BND1,000 for each offence, and if they fail to pay the fine must result in the employer being brought to court.
The Labour Department reminded employers to monitor employee welfare in accordance with the Employment Order 2009. Employers are advised not to misuse the foreign worker licence and violate the Act under the Employment Order 2009. – Azlan Othman
