Trade convention to showcase BIMP-EAGA strengths

A trade convention to promote trade, tourism and investment in the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) will take place at Bridex Hall 1 and 2 from October 25-29.

The BIMP-EAGA Trade Convention 2023 (BETCON 2023) aims to provide a venue for enterprises from the BIMP-EAGA region and present products, services and investment prospects as well as opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange. Around 300 exhibitors and 1,000 delegates from the sub-region and development partners South Korea, Japan, China, Australia and other international partners are set to attend.

BETCON 2023 organising committee chairperson Haji Alimen bin Haji Jaafar said the convention aims to promote trade, tourism and investment that complements the outcomes of BIMP-EAGA Vision 2025’s five strategic pillars, which include enhancing connectivity, establishing the sub-region as Asia’s food basket, promoting BIMP-EAGA as a premier tourism destination, managing natural resources sustainably and promoting people-to-people connections.

Yesterday, a number of local organisations signed agreements with BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BEBC) to support the convention.

Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC) signed an agreement to be BETCON 2023 event support. NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd signed on as a platinum package sponsor, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) as a gold package sponsor and Unified National Networks (UNN) as a silver package sponsor. Meanwhile Brunei Press Sdn Bhd signed as an exclusive print and digital media partner for BETCON 2023.

BEBC Brunei Chairman Pengiran Dr Haji Haris bin Pengiran Haji Duraman signed on behalf of the organisation while MPC CEO Zeng Caili; NBT (Brunei) Marketing Manager Anderson Lim; BIBD Head of Government Relations and Special Projects Haji Mohammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah; BIBD Acting Chief of Human Resources and Human Capital Pengiran Suhardy bin Pengiran Haji Nordin; and Brunei Press General Manager Anafiah binti Omar signed as representatives of the companies.

The convention is set to include business forums and matchmaking, as well as the BETCON Marketplace for business-to-customer events such as product samplings, stage activities and a lucky draw. – James Kon
