Tourism Development Department urges public to use licensed travel agents

The Tourism Development Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism reminded the public to engage with licensed travel agents only when booking tickets, holiday packages or pilgrimage services such as haj and umrah.

The department, which regulates travel agencies under the Tourism Act (Chapter 239), warned that operating as an unlicensed travel agent is illegal. Offenders could face a fine of up to BND10,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both. For continuing offences, an additional fine of BND100 per day may be imposed.

Any company or individual intending to operate as a travel agent must apply for a license from the Tourism Development Department. Those already licensed and planning to offer haj and umrah services must obtain further approval from the Haj Management Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs. – Fadley Faisal
