Safety should never be optional on water taxis

Each time I take my regular morning stroll at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas in the capital, I am always in awe of the breathtaking scenery of Kampong Ayer.

The tranquil waters and vibrant life of the water village never fail to impress me.

However, a few days ago, I noticed that several water taxi operators were not wearing the mandatory life jackets.

This was concerning, especially since there have been repeated advisories urging both operators and passengers to wear life jackets for their safety.

I recall news reports highlighting these safety measures, and I understand that life jackets have even been distributed for free.

It is disappointing to see that this crucial safety rule is not being followed. Clearly, safety is not being treated as a priority in this situation, and this negligence puts lives at risk.

Authorities should consider enforcing stricter regulations to ensure compliance and prevent any unfortunate incidents.

Water safety should never be taken lightly. I hope the relevant authorities take the necessary steps to uphold these safety measures before tragedy strikes.
