Tour guides learn about Temburong’s biodiversity

Tour guide Farah Abadi Ruzaini who completed a training session at Ulu Temburong National Park, said the additional information she gathered about the national park will help her guide tourists.

“I believe that this opportunity can further enhance the experience by offering a more comprehensive programme and more in-depth knowledge about the plants and allow me to obtain specialised knowledge in the same field as bird watching,” she said.

The Tourism Development Department with cooperation from the Forestry Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism held four training sessions for 44 registered and licensed tour guides. The training from October 14 to 17 is based on the Ulu Temburong National Park travel guide book, Green Jewel of Brunei.

The forests and its rich biodiversity of flora and fauna at Ulu Temburong National Park are endemic to Borneo only.

The training session is one of the initiatives of the Tourism Development Department with cooperation from the Forestry Department to help improve tour guides’ knowledge and skills to provide a quality service to the tourists.

The training was facilitated by the Forestry Department to provide in-depth information on the species found along the route in the national park.

The tour guides were also brought to the 43-metre high canopy walk. – James Kon
