In a vision to turn Temburong into a district of natural opportunities, 33 main projects under the Temburong District Development Plan 2005-2025 covering housing, commercial, agriculture, fisheries, recreational, tourism, transportation, infrastructure, utility and community are being carried out.
Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid said this during the 20th session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting yesterday.
He added, “The Temburong District Development Plan 2005-2025 is an initiative to encourage further development in Temburong District, coordinated by the Town and Country Planning Department. It contains land use policies and strategies.”
He said this in response to a query from LegCo member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim on plans to develop Temburong District.
In support of the vision, he shared, “The main strategy of land use planning is to generate a balanced development that can open up job opportunities and economic development while increasing economic and physical integration with other districts and maintaining its identity as ‘The Green Jewel of Brunei’.”
From the 33 projects, seven projects have been implemented, including the construction of the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge, Bangar Waterfront, Kampong Rataie National Housing Scheme, water recreation facilities in Ulu Temburong, fishing site at Kampong Rataie, the expansion of forest preservation areas such as Bukit Patoi, and the construction of bridges in Jalan Ukong.
Another seven projects currently underway are: the upgrading of the Batang Duri village road; building of renewable energy sources; the construction of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, religious activities centre at Kampong Senukoh; building of accommodation and facilities at Batang Duri, construction of a jetty and the Ministry of Defence’s camp.
Another 19 projects are currently in the pipeline, he added. – James Kon
