Technique, strategy come to light at kendo contest

A total of 27 kendo competitors demonstrated technique, strategy and indomitable fighting spirit at the inaugural Yamato Cup organised by the ShiroKaze Enterprise, at the multi-purpose hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last weekend.

The competition, which concluded on December 8, brought together top kendo practitioners from the Sultanate, Sabah and Sarawak.

In the men’s individual category, Brunei’s Chan Leang Seng emerged as the champion, while Nurul Azyani binti Rudy Sahardey won the women’s individual category.

In the Kirikaeshi category, Awangku Mohd Hafizuddin bin Pengiran Mohd Ghazalee won gold.

Meanwhile, a Brunei team comprising Muhammad Hafizuddin bin Samsudin, Lim Wei Keat and Mohammad Meor Eshan bin Tamit, defeated teams from Sabah and Sarawak to win the Team Exhibition Match.

Chan Leang Seng and Mohammad Meor Eshan also scooped the Best Fighting Spirit award.

Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru presented the prizes.
