A total of 114 teachers and students were celebrated for their achievements in various co-curricular competitions organised by the Islamic Studies Department (JPI) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) throughout 2024. The prize presentation ceremony took place at Pengiran Anak Puteri Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah Religious School Hall in Kampong Serusop on Wednesday.
Among the honourees were special needs student Mohamad Iqbal bin Shahiman from Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul ‘Azim Religious School, Serasa; Mohammad Rafiq Syazlan bin Roslan from Pengiran Muda Mohamed Bolkiah Religious School, Temburong District; Muhammad Mutaqeem Zakwan bin Muhammad Zulfardi from Pengiran Anak Puteri ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah Religious School, Mentiri; and Muhammad Aniq Raziq bin Mohammad Khairul Azhan from RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan Religious School.
The event, aligned with Brunei Vision 2035’s goal of cultivating educated and highly skilled citizens, featured competitions such as Al-Quran memorisation for students, recitation for students with special needs, rawi reading, and Al-Quran recitation competition for teachers and officers held in conjunction with the 34th Teacher’s Day celebrations.
Acting Director of JPI Hajah Mariana binti Haji Jamil, presented the prizes, recognising the dedication and excellence of the participants.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by Al-Quran recitation by one of the winners. It concluded with a prayer led by Mohammad Zamery bin Haji Nayan from the Arabic Schools Division. – Fadley Faisal
