Talent and grit: Rain puts Baiduri Masters’ golfers to the test

Howling winds and torrential rain put golfers chasing a finals berth to the test on the penultimate day of the Baiduri Masters, presenting an opportunity for Brunei’s best to show their true talent and grit.

Irwan Hamid’s seamless five-under round on day two remained unbeaten, with Bryan Chiew (two-under) and Asmawi Ismail (par) rounding off the top three.

Seruji bin Haji Setia (par) broke into the top four, while Tony bin Haji Karim (par) and Faiz Damit (one-over) also secured a finals appearance.

Completing the top 12 were Haji Shaminan bin Haji Damit (one-over), Madan Kumar Gurung (one-over), Md Haswandi bin Haji Paun (one-over), Md Zainul Amir Abdullah (one-over), Pengiran Haji Ahmad Zaki bin Pengiran Jambol (two-over) and Nujaimi Jumaat (two-over).

The top 12 will slog it out today in the title-deciding round, with a new champion set to lift the Challenge Trophy and don the coveted Green Jacket.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to five charitable organisations, namely the Child Development Centre (CDC), the Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA), the Paraplegic and Physically Disabled Association (PAPDA), the National Association for the Hearing-Impaired (OKP) and Learning Ladders Society (LLS).

The hole-in-one prizes include a BMW 520i on hole 16, MINI One on hole 9 or BND30,000 on holes 7 and 13.
