Suspect held in cat carcasses case

ANN/THE STAR – A 31-year-old man has been detained in connection with the discovery of numerous cat skeletons, organs and carcasses in a condominium unit in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras, Malaysia.

Cheras OCPD Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said the suspect was detained on Saturday.

“He has been remanded until Tuesday (March 28). We are investigating under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming animals,” he said when contacted yesterday.

ACP Zam Halim said police received a report on the incident on March 13.

“We urge those with information to contact the police as soon as possible,” he added.

On Friday, the Malaysia Animal Association (MAA) said in a Facebook post that the homeowner made the gruesome discovery in a condo unit rented by the suspect.

The act came to light after neighbours complained about a stench coming from the house.

MAA also urged the Veterinary Services Department to conduct a thorough probe.
