Supa Strikas FC emerged champions in the under-17 category of the Piala Dirgahayu 2025 after defeating PKT FT in a much-anticipated final at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex recently.
The excellence of the Tutong District-based team was also recognised based on the individual performances of their players after sweeping almost all of the tournament’s best awards.
Supa Strikas reached the final showpiece after overcoming Shada FT in the last four, before realising their ambition of winning the title in dramatic fashion through penalty kicks. The newly-crowned champions produced a clean sweep with the best awards on offer as Muhd Aqil Waiz bin Mohd Faiz won Best Goalkeeper, with the management team recognised for their work behind the scenes on the team’s success.
The tournament’s Best Manager Award went to Shahrul Azlan Haji Md Zain while Pengiran Md Aminuddin accepted the Best Coach Award.
Supa Strikas also received the ‘Fair Play’ Award and the Best Supporter Award.
Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Zinol bin Haji Mohammed was the guest of honour and presented the best awards prizes. Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) Interim President Pengiran Haji Kamarunsalehin bin Pengiran Haji Kamis presented trophies to the champions and runners-up.
Meanwhile, PKT FT’s emptiness was at least remedied when their attacker Mohd Ali Arsyad Mohd Ali Khan received the coveted Best Player Award.
Kasuka finished third in the tournament.
The junior-level tournament, which featured the participation of 12 youth football teams from the Belait, Tutong and Brunei-Muara Districts, reflects a very positive development in the country’s football.
The under-17 meet saw Group ‘A’ lined up by KPPKSK, COT JPKK, Rimba Star FC, Muaz F-Team, PKT FT and Supa Strikas FC while Group ‘B’ saw competition between PM FC, Projek Ikan Pusu, Sport School Warriors, Gergasi FC, Kasuka FC and Shada FT.
