His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam held a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday, in conjunction with the 25th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.
His Majesty first attended a four-eye meeting with the Malaysian prime minister at Cheradi Ratna Kenchana, where the two leaders discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, in particular, the progress on the implementation of exchange of letters, an agreement signed between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia in 2009. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and international matters of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, His Majesty and the Malaysian prime minister witnessed the signing ceremony for the exchange of notes and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between His Majesty’s Government and the Malaysian Government, including the exchange of notes at the ministerial-level to make joint progress in Sector F-G.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, was also present.
The exchange of notes was signed between Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof and Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohammad bin Haji Hasan.
An MoU between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Malaysia was also signed. It was on first phase of the joint demarcation and survey of the land boundary between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia for Sector D-E, specific sections in Sector C-D, Sector E-F, Sector K-L and part of Sector J-K in the vicinity of Jambatan Persahabatan and Block B in the vicinity of Brunei Bay.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan signed on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, while Secretary General at the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Sri Amran Mohamed Zin signed on behalf of the Malaysian Government, in their capacity as chairmen of the joint Brunei Darussalam-Malaysia Land Boundary Committee.
Meanwhile, an MoU on cooperation in the field of transport was also signed, which saw Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha sign on behalf of His Majesty’s Government and Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohammad on behalf of the Malaysian Government. At noon, His Majesty and the Malaysian prime minister proceeded to Baiturrahmah for a luncheon, which commenced with State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned reciting a Doa Selamat.
