Universiti Brunei Darussalam School of Business and Economics (UBD SBE) organised its second Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition on March 30 via Zoom.
The online competition aimed to enhance students’ communication skills where contestants compete by conveying their research to non-specialist audiences in three minutes.
Sixteen PhD students from UBD SBE and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) presented orations on their theses.
UBD SBE student Muhammad Azmi Sait bagged the BND1,000 first prize with his presentation on ‘Investigating Antecedents to e-Wallet Adoption Case: Brunei Darussalam’. Edward Tee Check Hwa spoke on ‘Measuring the State of Information Technology Adoption of Public Sector Organisations in Brunei Darussalam’ and earned the runner-up position and BND500 prize. Aishath Shahudha binti Abdulla won the People’s Choice Award with her speech on ‘Risk Dynamics and Financial Stability in Asia’.
UBD SBE’s economics professor and head of Applied Economics and Theoretical Research Cluster Professor Dr Ahmed Khalid and Associate Professor in Management Information System Dr Nabil Almunawar and Senior Assistant Professor in Accounting and Finance Dr Muhammad Abduh as well as two UTB Senior Assistant Professors Dean Dr Norihan Abu Hassan and Centre for Communication, Teaching, and Learning coordinator Dr Nena Padilla-Valdez were judges at the event.
UBD SBE Dean Dr Haji Masairol bin Haji Masri highlighted the popularity of 3MT in the academic world and that UBD SBE hosted its first competition in 2018 with eight student participants.
