Students flex their physique in athletics festival

Some 139 primary and special needs students from nine primary schools across the Belait District competed in a series of sports competitions, as part of the Primary School Kids Athletics Festival 2024 for Cluster 6 of schools, at the multipurpose field of Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School in Kuala Belait yesterday.

Head of Cluster 6 at the Department of Schools under the Ministry of Education (MoE) Halizawati binti Haji Kefli awarded prizes to the winners at the end of the festival.

The sporting activities included formula bends, backward overhead throw, hurdles relay, and three steps bound. The festival was organised by the MoE through their Physical and Recreation Division, Department of Co-Curriculum Education.

The festival aimed to introduce sports activities suitable for the physical development al needs of the children.

The festival also looked to nurture the children’s interest in physical activity by introducing them to the basics of athletics in the form of games, while promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle through fun in games and sporting events.

Similar festivals have been held across the six clusters of schools nationwide, starting with Cluster 1 on May 12, Cluster 2 on May 26 and Cluster 3 on June 9, with more to be held soon. – Daniel Lim
