Jerudong International School (JIS) students in the Senior School recently participated in a worldwide online competition organised by EducationPerfect, a web learning platform allowing students to enhance their knowledge of a variety of subjects including languages.
Year 12 student Hamza Anjum achieved the ‘Emerald Status’ leading JIS with the highest score and ranking, fifth among 1,631 other French students who took part globally.
Hamza Anjum answered 4,965 questions during the International Languages Championship, placing him in the top 1.5 per cent of competitors from around the world in all subjects.
Meanwhile, Year 12 students Drishti Punjabi and Sana Hamid achieved ‘Gold Status’ in Spanish and French. JIS finished in seventh position for French against 51 other schools compared to 15th last year, while in Spanish, JIS finished eighth out of 24 schools.
JIS also finished first for Greek, second for Latin and Russian and third for Japanese and Maori.
The international school finished fourth out of 24 schools overall.
Over the course of two days, 58,594 questions were answered by JIS students.
The students involved in the online competition embraced the opportunity to learn new words as well as having fun competing against their peers from other countries.
