Five Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) students recently left for China and Egypt in separate programmes.
Three students – one from the Faculty of Islamic Technology and two from Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Syariah Faculty – headed to Shenzhen in China to participate in the week-long ‘Huawei Seeds for the Future’ programme, which ends on September 30.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad was present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the students.
Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of China in Brunei Darussalam Wang Haitao; Dean of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Syariah Faculty at UNISSA Dr Ahmad Masum; and Head of the Graduate Programme Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Arowosaiye were also present.
The delegation also included Universiti Teknologi Brunei Assistant Professor Dr Saiful bin Haji Omar, along with representatives from the MoE and Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd.
The programme aims to nurture the talent and facilitate knowledge exchange in information and communication technology (ICT) as a foundation for expanding the students’ skills in the era of information digitisation.
It is hoped that though the programme, participants will gain knowledge, inspiration, and a global perspective. Students will be exposed to real-word working environments at Huawei’s headquarters, where the programme will be carried out.
Students will also receive the latest 5G technology knowledge in the industry, enhancing their employability and preparing them for workforce.
Moreover, the students will also have the opportunity to exchange views with students from different countries and learn about the customs and culture of the people in China.
Meanwhile, two students from the Faculty of Usuluddin left for Egypt on a study abroad programme (SAP) at the College of Islamic Sciences, Al-Azhar University.
Muhammad Dzulkhairi bin Haji Ibrahim and Nur Fatihah binti Abdullah Zamanul Azman, both third-year students in the Bachelor of Usuluddin (Aqidah and Dakwah) programme, will undergo the SAP programme for two semesters.
Dean of the Faculty of Usuluddin Professor Dato’ Dr Mohd Fakhrudin bin Abdul Mukti; Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Usuluddin Dr Haji Ahmad Baha bin Haji Mokhtar; and the Coordinator of At-Tamayyuz at the Faculty of Usuluddin Hajah Nurol Halimatulwara’ binti Haji Mumin were at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the students. – Rokiah Mahmud
