Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) on Wednesday launched ‘Movember’ to mark Men’s Health awareness for the whole month of November.
This year, The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) organised a public forum focusing on strengthening men’s health through a holistic approach. The forum serves as a platform to foster awareness, knowledge, and open dialogue on various aspects of men’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Present as guests of honour during the event held at the PJSC in Jerudong were Executive Director of PJSC Dr Haji Mazrul Adimin bin Haji Awang Besar, and Medical Director of PJSC Dr Meera Sahib Kabeer.
The event took off with opening remarks by Dr Haji Zulkhairi bin Haji Mohamad, the Chairman of Movember and Head Medical Oncology and Palliative Care Unit of The Brunei Cancer Centre.
The public forum then followed, with presentations from three speakers.
Consultant Medical Oncologist of TBCC Dr Ravi Sekhar Patnaik discussed the importance of screenings and preventive measures as well as improving lifestyles choices; Counsellor and Motivator Haji Ali Yusri bin Abdul Ghafor emphasised motivational insights and pursuing health goals
Meanwhile, Senior Narcotic Officer of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Abdul Halim bin Haji Mohamed touched on the common issues of substance abuse among men and its impact on men’s health.
Eyad Samhan bin Nyawa, a cancer warrior of lymphoma and Prostate Cancer also came forward to share his journey of battling cancer as one of the panellists in the joint discussion after the presentations. He shared how he survived from diagnosis to treatment and finally to survivorship, mentally and physically. He also gave insights into the challenges and triumphs he has experienced and the importance of emotional support from people around him.
During this campaign, PJSC said it is committed to increasing public awareness, especially among men, to take care of their own health in a holistic approach.
