Stakeholders learn about updated PBD

A socialisation programme was organised to introduce the 2nd edition of Piawai Brunei Darussalam (PBD) to 61 stakeholders including public and private sectors, institutions of high learning, suppliers and contractors as well as consultants yesterday.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Finance and Economy’s (MoFE) National Standards Centre (NSC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Development’s (MoD) Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi).

The programme was titled ‘PBD 2:2022 (2nd Edition) – Specification for Welded Steel Fabric for the Reinforcement of Concrete’ and the MoFE said PBD 2:2022 (2nd Edition) was adopted from ISO 6935-3:1992.

Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Construction Industry and Development) at the MoD Aldila binti Haji Mohammad Salleh was the guest of honour. Head of ABCi Hajah Haslinawati binti Haji Abdul Halim and NSC Acting Special Duties Officer Grade I Hajah Sharni Azne binti Haji Mohd Said were also present.

The acting deputy permanent secretary emphasised on the importance of PBD 2:2022 which aims at providing a vibrant, efficient and sustainable local industrial environment that meets the demand for services that support the construction industry in Brunei Darussalam.

She also expressed appreciation for the Working Group on Iron and Steel under the Technical Committee on Construction Materials (TCCM) for their efforts and diligence in setting the standard.

The event also saw a presentation by Special Duties Officer Grade II Pengiran Abdul Shahid bin Pengiran Haji Amir Bahar on the role of NSC in the development of national standards and the Public Works Department’s (JKR) Department of Technical Services Engineer Mohammad Izz Rafiuddin bin Haji Amer Hishamuddin on the technicalities and amendments that have been made to the PBD.
