Spotlight falls on peacekeeping operations

The 19th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Experts’ Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations (ADMM-Plus EWG on PKO) was held at a hotel in Gadong from December 9 to yesterday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Head of the Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre, Joint Force Headquarters Royal Brunei Armed Forces Colonel (U) Hismawadi bin Haji Mohd Said and Senior Officer for Peacekeeping J3, Joint Staff Department, the People’s Liberation Army of China Senior Colonel Zhang Qilin. The meeting commenced with a report from the ADMM-Plus EWG on PKO, shared by the co-chairs, highlighting several activities throughout the first quarter of 5th cycle, 2024-2027.

It is one of the planned activities under the 5th Cycle of ADMM-Plus EWG on PKO which focuses on the theme ‘Current Challenges and Future Development of United Nations Peace-Keeping Operations’.

Acting Director of Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence Marina binti Abdullah Sitau along with representatives from Brunei and the People’s Liberation Army of China were in attendance.

The meeting was attended by 67 participants from ASEAN-Plus countries, ASEAN Secretariat and the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPKO) as well as from Timor-Leste as an observer country. – James Kon
