ANN/THE KOREA HERALD – A worker at Sudokwon Landfill Site in Incheon was praised by the Incheon Seobu Police Station for discovering bundles of banknotes at the landfill and assisting the police in locating the owner of the money.
An employee of a subcontractor of Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corp Park Jae-geun found KRW29 million (USD21,700) at the landfill on February 1 while disposing of waste. Park has been working in the field for over 30 years.
Although some of the money was scattered, Park noticed two plastic bags filled with bundles of KRW50,000 notes. He collected the money and reported it to the police following the site operator’s rules. Using receipts found with the bags, the Incheon Seobu Police Station identified the owner of the money.
Park stated that reporting the money was his duty and expressed gratitude for the compliments from the police in an interview with local media.
He also mentioned feeling fortunate to have found the bags of money, as some treasured items mistakenly discarded have been buried without being found, despite his efforts to locate them in response to heartfelt requests.
