Social development programme launched for Kampong Ayer

The second edition of a social development programme for Kampong Ayer residents was launchedon Tuesday, with the goal of repairing a boardwalk and sending students from schools in the iconic water village on educational field trips.

The programme, organised by Mitsubishi Corporation’s Brunei Liaisons Office, involved the cooperation of Green Brunei and was supported by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Schools and the Forestry Department.

She said the project to repair the boardwalk at Kampong Setia ‘A’ Zone 2 in Kampong Ayer begin on Tuesday and is estimated to be completed by the end of the month. “The project aims to enhance the structure of the boardwalk for the safety of the residents,” she added.

Meanwhile, five schools have been selected to be sent on educational visits to the Tropical Biodiversity Centre in the Belait District. Students from Sungai Siamas, Pehin Dato Jamil, Bendahara Lama Saba Darat and Haji Tarif Primary Schools will be going on the field trips organised by Green Brunei. The non-governmental organisation will also provide food and transportation.

Headmistress of Sungai Siamas Primary School Norasnawati binti Haji Mohd Yassinexpressed gratitude that her school was selected and that the students will have the opportunity to learn more about the country.

“Since it is school break time, this activity will enable them to fill up their time with visits to important landmarks in the country, particularly outside the Brunei-Muara district,” she said.

“As a headmistress, I hope that the trip will help my students in their creativity and their visit experience will help them gain a boarder perspective. Some of them have never been out of the district,” she said.

Her students had their field trip on Tuesday, with others following on August 8, 10 and 19.
