Six athletes receive 1st Dan Black Belt grading

Six athletes from the Brunei Shotokan Karate Association (BSKA) reached a significant milestone in their karate journey after earning diplomas for their 1st Dan Black Belt.

The six karate exponents are Awangku Mohd Khalil bin Pengiran Kamarul Zaman, Mohammad Zul Fahmi bin Roslan, Mohd Sawalal bin Hamdan, Noor Batrisyia Aribah Hannazhsa binti Suhardi, Nur Saifullah Hazami bin Salim and Syakirah binti Haji Ibrahim.

Before undergoing their Dan grading, the athletes continuously attended their training sessions under the guidance of their chief instructor, Sensei Haji Mohammad Ishak bin Haji Abu Bakar.

These sessions focused on refining their fundamentals and perfecting their techniques.

The grading event, held at the Sports School, lasted three hours and began at eight in the evening. This assessment is not merely a symbol of seniority through the black belt rank but also a testament to the athletes’ discipline, growth, and experiences throughout their karate careers, both as practitioners and as individuals.

The grading was conducted by Shihan Pengiran Sabri bin Pengiran Mohammad and Shihan Dr Haji Kamaruddin bin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, with support from Sensei Haji Mohammad Ishak. – Fadhil Yunus
