SIM re-registration to fight crimes, scams

To enhance cybersecurity measures and combat increasing incidents of unlawful activities and scams conducted through calls and SMS in Brunei Darussalam, all prepaid SIM card users in the country are required to re-register their prepaid SIM cards with their service providers from January 2 to December 31, 2025.

This re-registration is a joint initiative by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN), Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST), Progresif Sdn Bhd and imagine Sdn Bhd.

Accurate and updated subscriber records are crucial for law enforcement agencies to prevent fraudulent SIM card registrations and combat unlawful activities, scams and the online dissemination of fake news. The re-registration process will be conducted in phases, with service providers notifying subscribers of their assigned re-registration timeframe via SMS. Subscribers can choose to re-register physically at service provider branches or specified public venues, or through online or electronic platforms.

DST prepaid SIM card subscribers who register before November 1, 2024, can complete the re-registration process entirely online. Progresif and imagine subscribers who register before January 2, 2025, must initiate the re-registration process online or electronically and then complete it with physical verification at a service provider branch.

Detailed information on the re-registration process is available on AITI and the mobile service providers’ websites. For inquiries, subscribers can contact their service providers’ hotlines. – James Kon
