Sepak takraw winners crowned

Muara Spurs ‘B’ emerged winners of the TAIB Open Sepak Takraw Super League 2024 after defeating Muara Spurs ‘A’ 2-0 in an enthralling final at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

7 Brothers and Panglima Kota Batu shared third place in the men’s open category.

Kicking off the programme, MS ABDB ‘B’ won the quadrant under-23 category after defeating Mirhabi 2-0 in the final. Aqua and Sukma 26 shared third place.

In the hoop category, Tutong emerged winners followed by runners-up Muara and MS ABDB in third place.

In recognition of the players’ excellence, individual awards were also feted.

On top of winning the title, Md Selamat bin Yakup of Muara Spurs ‘B’ received the Best Tekong award.

The best feeder of the tournament went to Abdul Hadi Ariffin bin Matali from Muara Spurs ‘A’ while Mohammad Muizzuddin Jamaludin from 7 Brothers bagged the Best Killer award.

The closing ceremony also witnessed a special exhibition battle of world stars between Thailand and Malaysia. The event also coincided with the presentation of a special appreciation prize by Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) to the Brunei Darussalam hoop and doubles national team who won two bronze medals during the World Sepak Takraw Championship 37th Thai King’s Cup held in Korat, Thailand from September 1 to 8.

The special appreciation prize was presented by Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Perbadanan TAIB.

The TAIB Open Sepak Takraw Super League featured the best teams after going through a series of tournament qualifying rounds.

The tournament was held for six consecutive weekends involving three venues as well as in the Tutong District. The second edition of the tournament contested a total of three events namely doubles, hoop and the under-23 quadrant.

A total of 20 teams took part in the doubles open event, five in the hoop and 12 in the under-23 quadrant.

The tournament is organised by the Brunei Darussalam Sepak Takraw Association (PESTABARU) in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Sports and Perbadanan TAIB as the main sponsor. – Fadhil Yunus
