A 64-year-old Thai was sentenced to six months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to overstaying for just over 12 years.
Sorasak Kongtaisong was one of the foreigners nabbed at a rented room in Sungai Taring, Kampong Lumut when immigration enforcers conducted a raid at 11.47pm on September 4. Investigations revealed that the defendant had been overstaying since July 2011.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid further heard from Immigration Prosecutor Adi Yusra bin Haji Adanan that the defendant made a living throughout the years offering air-conditioner maintenance services on a freelance basis.
The defendant reasoned his illegal stay by stating that he does not know where his passport is. – Fadley Faisal
