Schools receive recognition for STEAM engagement

Several schools received Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Active School 2024 recognition for their active participation in programmes organised by the Science, Technology Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre in 2023 and 2024.

Kampong Perpindahan Bukit Beruang II Primary School received the award in the primary school category and Tutong Sixth Form Centre in the secondary school and sixth form centre category.

The awards were presented at an event at Politeknik Brunei, Lumut Campus.  Fifty-six school leaders and representatives from primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and sixth form centres within the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) Cluster 5 attended the briefing session.

The session began with a welcome speech by Senior Education Officer at the STEP Centre Misli bin Moksin who explained STEAM as an approach to teaching and learning. This was followed by a sharing session on the services provided by the STEP Centre, including STEAM programmes and green initiatives and their relevance to the programmes offered at national, regional and international levels.

School leaders also discussed the STEP Centre’s programmes with its officers.

The discussions aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the content and importance of the STEAM programmes and green initiatives. The STEP Centre Programme Briefing 2025 also aims to build trust and strengthen collaboration between the STEP Centre and school leaders. The initiative is intended to raise awareness, broaden participation and encourage active engagement from schools in the STEP Centre’s services and programmes, ensuring their effective and sustainable long-term implementation at the school level.

This session will be delivered to school leaders and representatives from all MoE clusters and will be conducted according to the scheduled dates. – James Kon
